Inverlochy Castle
Scotland > Highland Counties > Inverness-shire > Inverlochy Castle
Inverlochy Castle located near Fort William. This fine old fortress is now a ruin. A modern castle was built close by, with the same name. The new Inverlochy Castle is a hotel.
The old castle was built by the Comyns of Badenoch in the 13th century. However after the Comyns were destroyed by Robert the Bruce in 1308 in his struggle for power in Scotland, the castle went to the Gordons of Huntly.
It has a simple layout, square courtyard and at each corner, there was a tower.
