Located on the B792, 2 miles north of Bathgate and 2 miles south of Linthithgow. Buildings iof note indlude the Parish Church dating from 1756 and the mansion houses of - Wallhouse, Couston, Bridge and to the west, Gowanbank dating from 1845. North of the village Torphichen Preceptory was the Scottish seat of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem, their church dates from the 13th century and some of it survives today. Their estate around the church provided sanctuary to criminals and debtors with the reaching of the 'Refuge Stone'.... < more >
