At an altitude of 1,160 feet it is the second highest village in Scotland.
The village was built as a planned village by the Alexander, the 4th Duke of Gordon who in 1779.
A long main street lined with stone or harled houses opens into a central square. Buildings of note include the Museum and Thomas Telford's Parliamentary Church.
Tomintoul lies on the Malt Whisky Trail not far from the Glenlivet distilleries and has long been associated with whisky distilling.... < more >
