The 16th century tower house lies about 4 miles north west from Edinburgh. The house had extensions added in the 19th century which overlook the Firth of Forth. The father of the inventor of logarithms built the house in 1590. The last private owner of the house, William Reid installed plumbing and electricity in the house and collected furniture which can still be seen. The Reid family decided that the house should be left to Scotland and The City of Edinburgh have had the house since William Reid's wife died in 1926. The house offers a glimpse of Edwardian life in a Scottish country house and you can view the banded mineral Blue John, which is used in several ornaments.... < more >
