Largo Bay with its sandy beaches and golf courses lies in the lea of the mound of Largo Law. It forms an lovely setting for the old villages of Lundin Links, Upper Largo and Lower Largo. Lundin Links has always been a favorite of golfers. The Lundin Links golf course is of a standard high enough to hold qualifying rounds for the Open Championship when it is held in St Andrews. Lower Largo is a tourist resort with an attractive harbour. Lower Largo is famous for its association with Alexander Selkirk, born in 1676, who found fame for his real-life exile on a desert island in the Pacific Ocean. It was four years and four months before he was rescued. Daniel Defoe, became interested in Selkirks real-life story and in 1718 published - Robinson Crusoe. In the village a statue of Andrew Selkirk, dressed in desert island goat-skin clothing, marks where the cottage he was born in, stood.
