43 miles North of Aberdeen, Fraserburgh was a major fishing port and is now a holiday resort town. It was orginally called Faithie and is now known locally as the Broch (Scottish word meaning Burgh). Fraserburgh was founded in 1569 following a charter granted to Sir Alexander Fraser of Philorth, who built the original Harbour. Scotland's oldest lighthouse is at Fraserburgh and it sits on top of Fraser's Castle built in 1569 by Sir Alexanders grandson.
