Located in the centre of the fertile "Howe of Fife", this pleasant village was once a thriving town but over the years has reduced to a small village. Auchtermuchty has caused many people to test their pronounciation skills! English visitors find the word quite tricky to pronounce! The Tolbooth and Old Town House are dated from 1728, the tower is thought to be of a much earlier time. The church became famous when about 150 years ago it was revealed that the church bell was of silver. It discovered that the bell is a Lady Bell from Lindores Abbey nearby .
