Just nine months before his death, Lewis Grassic Gibbon concluded his trilogy of novels 'A Scots Quair' in Barmekin of Echt and whilst writing about Echt he lived there for a a few months. The Barmekin of Echt is on an isolated hill. About 1 mile west is the stone cirlce of Cullerlie which is thought to date to the late Bronze Age.... < more >
