On the peninsula of Sleat in the south of the Isle of Skye, Armadale is the ferry port for Mallaig on the mainland. Sleat is known as the "Garden of Skye" - that is probably why there is one of the finest hotels and restaurants in Scotland nearby. Also nearby is the Clan Donald Visitor Centre as this is Macdonald of Skye territory as Armadale Castle indicates! Johnston and Boswell visited Armadale during their Highland journeys in 1773.
