Like to shop till you drop??? Well Glasgow won’t
disappoint. Glasgow is the UK’s biggest shopping capital outside
of London. Within the city centre most shops are within a good walk
of each other, or a short underground or bus ride.
Glasgow is home to the "Italian
Centre", with such brand name outlets as Versaci and Armani.
If this is above your price range then don't worry. The Buchanan
Galleries shopping centre is located in the centre of Glasgow's
shopping district right on the corner between Sauchiehall Street
and Buchanan Street, and if that's not enough, a 2 minute walk
down the hill will see you arrive at Princes Square - a fabulously
decorated enclosure with shops to match. If you are lucky you
might arrive in time to here the piano being played on the ground
floor! Though having a pianist does come at a price, the shops
and cafes can be expensive but its definitely worth walking through,
at least! If however you are still unsatisfied with the shops,
a further 2 minute walk down the hill sees you at the St Enoch
shopping centre - just as big and as busy as the Galleries. If
however you are still not satisfied with the not 1, not 2 or 3
shopping centres on ONE street, and I must mention it was downhill
all the way to here, there is always the Braehead Shopping Arena
located just outside of Glasgow on the way to Paisley. In this
same complex you will also find Scotland's first and only Ikea
till recently! So popular is this Ikea that there are special
trips organised from Northern Ireland to take people across the
water to buy the ever-popular fine Swedish craftsmanship. So as
you can see, if you cant find what you're looking for in Glasgow
then you wont find it anywhere! |

Buchanan Galleries
With 2,000 car parking spaces and 80 of the top high
street stores, the Galleries are always busy. John Lewis dominates the
centre covering all the floors, meanwhile you can find other popular
stores; H&M, Boots, Swarovski and Next to name but a few. When out
onto Sauchiehall Street you can find Virgin & Topshop within easy
distance. Marks & Spencer’s main stores in Glasgow can be
found further up Sauchiehall Street or on Argyll Street.
St Enoch Centre
At the bottom of Buchanan Street and intersecting with
Argyll Street you can find the St Enoch’s Centre. An older shopping
mall but with even more stores such as Disney, Debenhams, Faith &
Evans.
Princes Square
An upmarket shopping centre with some very ‘trendy’
cocktail bars as well as designer stores such as French Connection,
Space NK & Lacoste.
Frasers
Edinburgh maybe known for Jenners, Glasgow’s
version of Jenners is Frasers. Found at the bottom of Buchanan Street,
Frasers is a huge towering building with virtually everything you could
want from a department store.
The Italian Centre
In the Merchant City part of the city you will find
the well known and respected Italian Centre. Designer store Armani &
Scotland’s only Versace are dominant here. You can also wine and
dine in an Italian manner in this area of the city.
Outside Glasgow
Travelling out of the city centre’s bounds you
can head to Braehead or the recently opened Glasgow Fort. Braehead only
a few junctions West on the M8 is a huge shopping area. In the outside
part to the area you can find the likes of Comet, Halfords & PC
World, meanwhile inside lies many stores such as Beaverbrooks, Sainsbury’s,
Marks & Spencer and Thornton’s. If you head East on the M8
at Junction 10 you will find the Glasgow Fort. A huge horseshoe shaped
complex with regular favourites such as Virgin, Jessop’s, Borders
& Zara.
