We Scots are never really boastful – it is not in our nature, except, that is for our football and rugby teams and that has been misplaced recently! However, we do have some very high quality food produce as well as our whisky and beers. Beef, lamb, venison, cheese and especially seafood are all of an exceptionally high standard and it is gratifying to see so many restaurants using these home-grown ingredients in their menus. Scotland also has a fine mix of cuisine available from many different countries – an eclectic mix of cuisines especially in our towns and cities.
It is wrong to say that the cuisine in general in Scotland is now world-class as we are let down by many second rate establishments with poor quality of food and service but it is true to say that we do have a large number of excellent restaurants, both urban and rural and the standard is constantly improving – just keep a look out for the accolades and you can’t go far wrong. If you are in the rural areas, seek these places out – it is all part of the excitement! YesScotland will do its best to feature good examples from time to time and offer our own recommendations.
