The town which sits on the north bank of the River Clyde was built by Sir James Colquoun in 1780, named after his wife, it was built as a seaside resort. Located on the A814, 8 miles north west of Dumbarton. Little has changed today, it is still a day trip destination although most people living there earn their living in Glasgow and beyond. Near to the town is the acclaimed Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed "Hill House". The house and its unique contents are living proof of the genius of one of Scotland's best architects and designers.... < more >
