Holiday Ideas - Holy Island Lindisfarne

yesscotland - says:

Ok, so I know what you are thinking, this is a site about Scotland and why are they telling to visit England?!!! Well its simple this site wants to offer you everything we can about Scotland and offer recommendations on what to do when you are here. We do understand that as beautiful and stunning as Scotland is you may want a change and Holy Island is not far over the border!!!

Seriously though, about 15 mins from Berwick-upon-Tweed is Holy Island (Lindisfarne). This is a beautiful and captivating place.

You must check the causeway times as the island is cut off when the tide comes in. Checking this can make the difference between leaving the island at 4pm and 10pm!! (Causeway Crossing Times)

Lindisfarne is internationally famous both its medieval religious heritage and in later years its beautiful picturesque 16th century castle. Next to the priory there also sits a monument to the founder of the Celtic Church in England (St Aidan).

Don’t be fooled into thinking this small island will be a quick visit. There are many things to see here and do. There are plenty of walks over the island. Places to stop take pictures have a cuppa or even a rest on the beach.

When you are here you must try the famous Lindisfarne Mead. A well known aphrodisiac, and blended from fermented white grapes, honey, herbs and natural water, you can stop and have a sample of this fortified alcoholic wine.

You will see lots of visitors on Holy Island for most of the year, but unlike any other place I have ever experienced you never pay much attention to them. The Island is a quiet serene place which offers the staging ground for some quiet reflection. Yes you will pass people maybe even nod to say hello but it is so blissfully quiet here that these passing people will not bother you at all.

Not to be missed I will guarantee you will love it here….
