Holiday Ideas - Mull of Kintyre
It is well worth the effort of visiting this almost forgotten part of the West coast. Kintyre is Highland in character, with truly spectacular views in just about any direction you care to choose. On the West coast the vistas over the water to the Isles of Gigha, Jura and Islay are some of the best in Scotland. On the east coast of the Mull the ever changing face of the Isle of Arran over the Firth of Clyde reveals itself as you travel down. At Tarbet Loch Fyne, the quaint but still functioning busy harbour is home to a fine collection of restaurants, hotels and shops looking on to the waters of Loch Fyne. Campbeltown on the east coast is a busy little town with lots of charm and a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars.
Perhaps the really nice thing about Kintyre is the feeling of being away from it all, almost as if you are on an island rather than a peninsula - sitting on the side of Glen Barr watching a pair of Golden Eagles soaring high in the late afternoon sunshine is a sight not to be forgotten in a long time. |
