Budget Airlines in Scotland
The difference between Budget/No Frills airlines and “conventional” airlines is not as clear as it was prior to 9/11. The majority of all airline prices have decreased in real terms and several of the conventional airlines have tried to compete with their newer “budget” colleagues, some with more success than others. However, in general terms, when referring to Budget/No Frills airlines you are talking about, in Scottish flight terms, the following:
easyJet – no definitive “base” in Scotland but has flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen
Zoom – with trans-Atlantic flights from Glasgow
Ryanair – from its base at Prestwick Airport, and also from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Inverness. It has flights to many destinations within the UK and in Europe.
FlyBE – flights into and out of Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.
bmi baby – flights into and out of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Germanwings – flights into and out of Edinburgh from Cologne.
Aer Arann – flights into and out of Edinburgh and Prestwick to Cork and Donegal respectively.
